Spain La Liga: Sevilla successfully shifted Barcelona

Sevilla shifted Barcelona from third place in the standings after a 2-0 win over Osasuna in the Spain La Liga continued match at the El Sadar Stadium, Thursday (23/2).

The victory over Osasuna made Sevilla collect 48 points from 23 matches. The number of points was enough for Los Nervionenses to take over from Barcelona.

Barcelona must be willing to drop to fourth position because they are one point adrift of Sevilla. The Blaugrana itself failed to win because Cadiz was held to a 1-1 draw at Camp Nou, the day before.

Since the beginning of the first half, Osasuna apparently took the initiative to attack first. As was done by Moncayola whose efforts were still wide of the Sevilla goal.

Even though he was surprised, the tempo of the match finally returned to Sevilla. Munir also almost gave Sevilla the lead if his opponent didn’t save his shot.

Sevilla managed to open up the advantage at home to Osasuna when the game was running 19 minutes. Center back Diego Carlos rattled Osasuna’s goal with a header from a corner.

Carlos accurately heads the ball which is fed by Joan Jordan. Sergio Herrera couldn’t anticipate the Brazilian defender’s header into the right corner of the goal.

After that, Sevilla could only double their advantage at the start of the second half. This time the actor is Dutch striker Luuk de Jong.

De Jong’s shot from inside the penalty box broke into Osasuna’s goal to make the score 2-0. The goal was created thanks to a pass sent by Munir El Haddadi.

Behind 0-2, Osasuna had a chance through Roberto Torres and Jonathan Calleri but did not produce goals. As a result, the score 2-0 for Sevilla’s victory lasted until the second half ended.

Meanwhile for Osasuna, this defeat was the 11th in La Liga this 2020–2021 season and the second in the last four league games. The series of bad results put Jagoba Arrasate Elustondo’s team stuck in 13th place in the La Liga standings with a score of 25.

Sevilla will continue their struggle in the La Liga event against Barcelona on Saturday (27/2/2021) starting from 9am. 22.15, which results will determine the composition of the top-flight standings and also of course the competition for the championship podium.

Meanwhile, Osasuna will travel to the Deportivo Alaves headquarters, Mendizorroza Stadium in Alava, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday (28/2/2021) starting from 9am. 00.30 WIB.
