The Spanish national team successfully defeated the Swiss national team with a score of 3-2 in the 2024/2025 UEFA Nations League match held at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez, Monday (11/18/2024).
Spain’s three winning goals in Santa Cruz de Tenerife were scored by Yeremi Pino, Bryan Gil, and Bryan Zaragoza. Switzerland had equalized thanks to goals from Joel Monteiro and Andi Zeqiri.
Thanks to this result, Spain is increasingly firmly perched at the top of Group 4 League A with 16 points. Meanwhile, Switzerland is slumped at the bottom of the standings with only two points.
In the 31st minute, Spain received a penalty after Ricardo Rodriguez fouled Alvaro Morata in the penalty box. Pedri’s execution was still blocked by Yvon Mvogo, but the melee ball was finished by Pino into a goal.
Entering the second half, Monteiro successfully equalized the score in the 63rd minute. However, Spain regained the lead five minutes later thanks to a goal from Bryan Gil.
Switzerland were once again able to equalize in the 85th minute through Zeqiri’s penalty. Previously, Fabian Ruiz had committed a foul in the penalty box.
Just when it seemed like a draw would be the final result of the match, the referee gave Spain another penalty after Zaragoza was fouled by Vincent Sierro in the penalty box.
Zaragoza successfully converted the penalty into a goal in the third minute of injury time, ensuring victory for Spain.
Bryan Zaragoza deserved to be named the best player in Spain’s 3-2 win over Switzerland in the 2024/2025 UEFA Nations League.
Zaragoza actually started the match from the bench. The Osasuna player was only brought on in the 69th minute to replace Pino, shortly after Spain scored the second goal.
After Switzerland managed to equalize again at the end of the second half, Zaragoza showed his brilliance. His movement in the penalty box forced a Swiss player to commit a foul.
Zaragoza confidently took the crucial penalty at the end of the match. With a cool hand, the 23-year-old player successfully defeated Yvon Mvogo and became the hero of Spain’s victory.
