Madrid actually started this match well. Los Merengues managed to lead 1-0 when the game has only been running for 14 minutes.
Madrid’s opening goal was scored by Federico Valverde. The Uruguayan midfielder cheated the ball against Betis after receiving a Karim Benzema pass.
Madrid, who controlled the game, missed in the 35th minute. Starting from a dead ball situation, Aissa Mandi who won the duel against Casemiro was able to head the ball to thrill Thibaut Courtois’ goal.
Two minutes later, Betis could even turn 2-1 ahead. William Carvalho’s hard shot from inside the penalty box could not be dammed by Courtois.
At the start of the second half, Madrid played more aggressively to score an equalizer. The effort paid off when Daniel Carvajal’s cross, which Emerson tried to block, went into his own net.
Emerson actually intended to cut a cross made by Dani Carvajal from the right of the attack, but his attempt actually made the ball turn into the net itself.
After the score drew 2-2, Madrid got the advantage because Emerson was sent off. The Betis defender received a red card for violating Luka Jovic when he was the last man in the Betis defense.
Losing one player made Betis no longer free to apply pressure. This situation was used by Madrid to be able to secure victory. Real Madrid really put the advantage in the number of players. They used that momentum to push Real Betis even harder.
The opportunity to win came Marc Bartra, who was considered the referee to hand ball in the penalty box after seeing the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). Sergio Ramos, who progressed as the executor, did a good job to make the score 3-2 in the 82nd minute and lasted until the game was over.
