Stan Wawrinka, after 12 seasons without visiting Stockholm, wasted no time in getting through the first match at the 2023 Stockholm Open season.

The 38 year old tennis player, Wawrinka beat the Croatian tennis player, Borna Gojo with 7-5, 6-4 in the first round of the Stockholm Open, thus becoming the oldest tennis player to win a match at the ATP level 250 tournament since 39 year old tennis player, Jimmy Connors in the season 1991.

Throughout the match which lasted 91 minutes, the Swiss national converted three of the ten break point opportunities he created. This meeting was the first meeting between the two tennis players.

A tennis player who has three Grand Slam titles, Stan Wawrinka previously competed in Stockholm in the 2010 season, when he qualified for the quarterfinals and the 2011 season.
