AC Milan and their coach, Stefano Pioli, are rumored to be parting ways at the end of the 2023-2024 Italian League. According to Italian media reports, La Gazzetta dello Sport, the reason is because Milan management is not satisfied with the results achieved by the Rossoneri in the first half of this season.
Stefano Pioli’s contract with AC Milan will actually end in June 2025. However, the fate of this 58 year old tactician at the giant Italian League club is starting to be threatened.
This was after AC Milan was eliminated from the 2023-2024 Champions League and Coppa Italia. In the latest match, Atalanta eliminated the Rossonerri from the Coppa Italia quarter-finals with a score of 1-2 at the San Siro.
This was a disappointing result after Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan was also eliminated from the Champions League in December 2023. Plus, AC Milan is nine points behind Inter Milan in the Italian League.
Following these disappointing results, La Gazzetta dello Sport claims the Rossoneri will likely not continue their collaboration with Stefano Pioli for the 2024-2025 season. The Italian tactician will part ways with Milan at the end of the 2023-2024 season.
“Even though Pioli’s contract will expire in June 2025, La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the Italian tactician and Milan are likely to part ways at the end of the season,” wrote the La Gazzetta dello Sport report, as quoted from Football Italia, Friday (12/1/2024 ).
Still according to the same source, the AC Milan Director is said to be making a final decision this spring. Inconsistent results this season will likely lead to the 58-year-old coach’s departure in the summer of 2024.
“Milan’s directors are disappointed not only with the results obtained but also with the repeated injuries experienced by the players this season. The Rossoneri have experienced 33 physical problems in the 2023-24 season, and Pioli and his staff are responsible in the eyes of the club,” wrote Football Italia.
For information, AC Milan currently sits in third place in the 2023-2024 Italian League standings, nine points behind the leader, Inter Milan. This means that the Europa League may be the only target they can achieve in the second half of this season.
