Stefanos Tsitsipas, a Greek national, is showing little sign of slowing down at the Masters 1000 tournament, the 2023 Monte Carlo Open.
The 2021 and 2022 Monte Carlo Open champions extended their winning streak at the tournament to 12 with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Chilean Nicolas Jarry in the third round.
The second seed appeared rock solid to seal victory in 93 minutes against world number 58 Jarry on Court Rainier III. A chance of a break of serve in each set was enough to secure a place in the quarter-finals for the Greek national who won 80 percent of the points on his first serve and saved both of the break point opportunities he faced.

“I had to deal with some challenging points, especially when he had a break point opportunity. I overcame that situation very maturely and played accurately, so it’s amazing,” said Tsitsipas.
Even though the second seed bagged a scintillating result in the Monte Carlo Open going into the match, Jarry won their previous encounter at the 2019 season’s ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
“He is a player who has a positive record on clay, a player who can serve hard as well,” Stefanos Tsitsipas commented on Jarry who won his second career title in Santiago in February this season.
“I feel really happy that I got through it and give myself a positive end to the game.”
Now, Tsitsipas, who is 14-2 at the Monte Carlo Open, will prepare for a quarter-final against eighth seed Taylor Fritz, who is 22-6 this season in 2023. The eighth seed will look to beat the second seed for the first time in a meeting their fourth in an ATP tournament.
Prior to advancing to the quarter-finals of the Monte Carlo Open for the second time in a row, American tennis player Fritz had to fight it out before eliminating Czech Jiri Lehecka 4-6 6-4 6-1, including securing seven of nine break opportunities. points he faced and converted four of the seven break point opportunities he created.
Fritz also increasingly dominated their head to head with 2-0 after he won their first meeting in the United Cup at the start of the 2023 season.
