Tennis News: Stefanos Tsitsipas is ready to compete in the US Open this season. The US Open will be the first Grand Slam to be hold in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is World Number 6 Player. Wimbledon had to be canceled for the first time since World War II, while the French Open was postponed and was scheduled to be held after the US Open.
Even though the USTA as the organizer of the US Open will apply strict safety measures and rules, many players have chosen to withdraw from the US Open this season. According to The National, there are three men in the top 10 – defending champions Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Gael Monfils – and seven top 50 players who have decided not to participate in the US Open this season. For the first time since the 1999 US Open, neither Nadal nor Federer attended the Grand Slam.

However, in a recent interview, Greek national Tsitsipas stated that it was a golden opportunity.
“Opportunities will certainly increase without the presence of Roger or Rafa at the US Open this season. It’s definitely a better chance to play better and feel that all the attention is not just on them. I also given the opportunity to be in a better position in terms of ranking,” admitted Tsitsipas.
Tsitsipas was also unsure why the tennis players chose to quit stating, “I don’t know what they had in mind and why they made that decision. I know, of course that Roger was injured. Rafa, I don’t know why he won’t compete, maybe it has something to do with Roland Garros (the French Open venue). But it gave me opportunities and motivated me. I feel confident in my game. Novak, of course, will be a challenge.”
“Most of the tennis players have been training in the last few months. They are in great shape and I know because I have practiced with a lot of them. It will be a challenge for all tennis players, because we have never experienced it before. The situation will also be very different from other Grand Slams. Anyone who can adapt well, he will be a player who will play to the best of his ability.”
