Tarran Mackenzi Extends His Contract with the McAMS Yamaha

Tarran Mackenzie has extended his contract with the McAMS Yamaha team for another year and will defend his British Superbike Championship title in 2022 with the number one record.

“It will be my first time starting a season from this position, so it’s another experience and a different way to start the year, I’m really looking forward to it!” Mackenzie said.

“It will be my fifth year with McAMS, which is great and it’s great to be back with Steve and work with the exact same crew next season.

“It looks like the Yamaha will make a good step forward for next year as well. It’s going to be something special to ride the number one record.” Mackenzie added.

Mackenzie claimed the British Superbike Championship title last season after ten wins and a further nine podium finishes.

“We had to laugh about it recently, because in 2022 it will be exactly 25 years since my father defended his title and then won his second title, so that 25 years of history is still there for me.” Mackenzie said.

“I want to thank all of Raceways Yamaha, Steve Rodgers, everyone at McAMS and the whole team because we’ve had a great year and my dream has come true.

“To be able to ride with them again next season makes me very happy and I am grateful that we can defend the title together.” he added.

Shane Byrne was the last rider in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship to successfully defend his title in 2017 and win the premier class championship twice in a row.

It seems Yamaha is keen to build on this success, with Mackenzie confirming a few upgrades due for the enamoured R1 based machine.

“The best bit for me is I know there’s more to come from the package too, we visited Yamaha Racing HQ in Italy a couple of weeks ago and we’ve got some really exciting new parts to come which will hopefully move us on even more.” Mackenzie said.
