Taylor Fritz Looks Forward to the Team’s Atmosphere Ahead of the United Cup

Taylor Fritz is a big fan of the mixed team competition format, the United Cup and is excited to help his country retain the title.

The world number 10 stated that having teammates cheering him on from the side of the court gave him a completely different feeling. He believes that the change in atmosphere created awareness that he was representing his country and not just himself.

“I just love the energy of having a team on the bench cheering you on, having other people I guess counting on you to win,” Fritz said in an interview with UnitedCup.com.

“That’s different. I think that motivates me more than when I’m playing for myself. Then the United Cup, the Laver Cup, competitions like that, whether it’s on Team USA or Team World, to me it feels like a really big thing and I can always feel very excited and heated to play in those situations. I feel like I always play my best game in team competitions.”

The American tennis player expects a tight set in the group stage singles match with the players predicted to be his opponents being Australian tennis player Alex De Minaur and British tennis player Cameron Norrie.

The world number 10 admitted that it was quite difficult to prepare himself to face two very tough opponents.

“For me, starting in the 2024 United Cup will immediately involve two really fierce matches,” admitted Fritz. “What is clear is that Alex De Minaur will challenge, then Cameron Norrie and I have met on many occasions and played many close matches. So, yes, I have to prepare well.’

He stated that he would be responsible for playing the only mixed doubles event with a revised format for the 2024 edition of the season.

“I think this season will be different, mixed doubles will play a bigger role. Because with only three games instead of five, I think the results can go any way. I definitely won’t let anyone else play mixed doubles. “I definitely plan to do it with Jessica Pegula if that happens,” explained Taylor Fritz.

“We will definitely come back to defend the title and we will just take it game by game. The main goal is to get through the group stage in Perth, then head to Sydney.”
