The success of a racer in MotoGP is not only determined by his skills on the motorbike alone. Many people are involved in the development of the motor. One of the most important figures for racers is the data strategy engineer.
From the electronic data, drivers can find out what their racing style lacks, especially in corners. For that, since 2021 Marc Marquez has a new engineer, namely a woman named Jenny Anderson. This technical figure initially worked for Pol Espargaro but was later “hijacked” by Marc.
Jenny first joined Mika Kallio and then Pol Espargarò at KTM. But in Pol’s transition to Honda she instead joined Marc Marquez. She admits working with Marc at Repsol Honda was a great professional career leap that makes her proud of what she has done.
“I am very lucky to work on a certain level with Marc”, she said in an interview with Box Repsol. Jenny’s love for racing grew from a young age. Her father was an engineer and made cars and go-karts. Since then, she started installing sensors everywhere to make the go-karts go faster.
“I thank my father, it’s all thanks to him, and our family watches the races every Sunday,” she said. “I remember that on Sunday mornings he got up early and started the car in the garage. With my brothers and sisters , we race to see who comes first to sit in the passenger seat and ride with him,” she said.
Jenny’s job is very important. She replaces former electronics engineer Gerold Bucher. Bucher has had 25 years of experience and has worked with Marc since Moto2.
Moreover, KTM Jenny is no ordinary person. She has been involved in developing the electronics for the KTM RC16 since the Austrian manufacturer decided to jump into MotoGP in 2017.
Jenny studied data engineering at Oxford Brookes University, and went straight to work in Formula 3. She says being a woman doesn’t limit her career in a world where many men are.
“If you have a bright mind, if you like to ask questions and find out the answers, if you are always eager to learn, a scientific or engineering career can be very exciting,” she says. “Being a woman in no way limits your abilities and potential to achieve great goals. , said Jenny.
