Tennis News: Non-seeded player Krystina Pliskova caused a shock defeat at the Shenzhen Open in the 2020 season when she beat second seed and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka.

Czech, Pliskova successfully bagged a 6-4 6-4 victory over Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, a victory that led Pliskova to the quarterfinals.

The victory that Pliskova fought for 89 minutes not only frustrated Sabalenka’s hopes of defending the Shenzhen Open title, but made Sabalenka defeat the second of the last 11 matches he played in China.

“He played so fast, so I had to be ready from the first point. My service also did not disappoint, one of the important things in my game. So, I’m glad that I won, “Pliskova exclaimed.

“I qualified for the quarterfinals at this tournament two seasons ago. So, I am happy to be back and look forward to what I can do better. “

World number 11 Sabalenka, who won titles in Wuhan and Zhuhai last season, only lost three games when she beat Margarita Gasparyan in the first round.

However, Pliskova looked impeccably behind service from her right hand after she fired 15 aces, won 87 percent points from her first serve, and secured 11 break points on her way to winning the first meeting between the two players.

For the sake of a place in the semifinals, Pliskova will challenge Kateryna Bondarenko who dashed hopes of the host, Zhang Shuai with 7-6, 6-3.

In another action, world number 58 Anna Blinkova recorded her first win over the top 10 when she defeated first seed Belinda Bencic in Shenzhen.

Got missed the first set, Blinkova struggled to get up and beat Bencic with 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Until now, Blinkova recorded 0-4 against the top 10 and only managed to take a set in all four matches, but facing Bencic, he fired a number of aces and broke world number 8 Bencic on five occasions.

In the second half, Russian tennis player Blinkova will meet Zarina Diyas after the Kazakh tennis player eliminated host, Duan Yingying with 6-3, 6-4.

Previously we already know that Belinda Bencic and Aryna Sabalenka start the 2020 season in Shenzhen.

The Shenzhen Open has been one of the WTA tournaments since the 2013 season. A number of the world’s top tennis players have won it, including those who have won Grand Slams, Li Na and Simona Halep.
