The Indonesian U-19 National Team Will Face Timor Leste in the AFF U-19 Cup 2024

The Indonesian U-19 National Team will face Timor Leste in the 2024 AFF U-19 Cup 2024. Indonesia is said to be fierce in front of Timor Leste.

The final match of Group A will take place at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya on Tuesday (23/7). Indonesia U-19 only needs a draw to qualify directly for the semifinals as group A winners.

Even though Indonesian U-19 have pocketed six points, the U-19 Indonesian National Team has not yet confirmed that they will qualify for the semifinals. Indra Sjafri’s squad still has to fight against Timor Leste to determine their ticket to the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Timor Leste must win over Indonesia so that its chances of qualifying are maintained. Currently Timor Leste is runner up in Group A with three points, just below Indonesia with six points.

Reflecting on history, Indonesia U-19 is superior to Timor Leste. The two teams clashed five times in the U-19 age group, twice in the AFF U-19 Cup and three times in the U-19 Asian Cup Qualifiers. Indonesia scored a total of 18 goals in five matches and conceded only one goal.

The first meeting in this age group took place on 20 September 2013. In the 2013 AFF U-19 Cup in Sidoarjo, Indonesia won 2-0 thanks to goals from Ilham Udin and Hargianto.

After that, they clashed in the 2018 U-19 Asian Cup Qualification on November 2 2017. As a result, Indonesia U-19 won 5-0 thanks to goals from Saddil Ramdani, Hanis Sagara and Egy Maulana (three goals).

Then Indonesia U-19 and Timor Leste clashed in the 2019 AFF U-19 Cup. On August 8 2019, Indonesia U-19 won 4-0 through goals from David Maulana, Salman, Beckham Putra and Sutan Zico.

Next, they clashed again in the 2020 U-19 Asian Cup Qualification on November 6 2019. This match belonged to the Garuda team, the score was 3-1, thanks to Fajar Faturrachman’s brace and Gumario’s own goal.

Finally, the two teams clashed in the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup Qualification on September 14 2022. Indonesia U-19 won 4-0 thanks to Hokky Caraka’s hat-trick and Rabbani Tasnim’s goal.

In other words, of these five meetings, Indonesia U-19 has never lost. Garuda Jaya, nicknamed Indonesia U-19, scored 18 goals and conceded only once.
