The Los Angeles Lakers would have made Anthony Davis available for trade, according to The Ringer’s Bill Simmons.
Due to the Lakers’ poor start to the season, rumours of a roster change became more complex. But it won’t be just any deal that transforms the current second-to-last West squad into a playoff team.
“There are rumours behind the scenes that Anthony is available. This is a Plan B as the preference would be to trade Russell Westbrook . But they’ve already realised that what they would get for Russell isn’t enough.” Simmons said.
“What, after all, do you offer for this guy? Involving draft picks, moreover, may not make sense in the new situation of the franchise.” Simmons added.
Due to his ongoing injuries, Davis is no longer able to play for the Lakers. Moreover, his technical impact has diminished. Beyond that, he will be paid at least $122 million through June 2025.
Simmons knows the Angelinos are looking for a trade to strengthen the roster, but hedoesn’t know if the season can be saved.
“Anthony, for starters, doesn’t look the same for the last few years. He is far from the athlete we saw in the ‘bubble’ or that star from the New Orleans Pelicans times, for sure.” Simmons said.
“The Pelicans, by the way, have their pick in the next draft. I don’t know what the end of this story will be, but I don’t think there’s a way to make them a playoff team,” he added.
Davis lately spoke about having been little used in the second half of the loss against the Utah Jazz. The 29-year-old superstar did not have passes with the expected volume and thus took two shots in the period. The forward, first of all, blamed himself for the situation.
