Como 1907 representative, Mirwan Suwarso revealed the chronology of Indonesian National Team player Thom Haye’s failed move to Como 1907 from SC Heerenveen.
Mirwan confirmed that there was a negotiation process between Como 1907 and SC Heerenveen in the January 2024 transfer market. However, there was a tug-of-war that occurred so that Haye failed to join the Italian club even though there was already an agreement from the Dutch club.
“We reached an agreement with his club [Thom Haye] after communicating for about a week. But in the end they did not allow Thom to leave before there was a replacement [player],” said Mirwan.
Furthermore, Mirwan said that SC Heerenveen asked Como 1907 to wait for seven days and again asked for additional time to find a replacement for Thom Haye. Mirwan stated that his club could not wait any longer.
“They asked for seven days. However, after that period passed, they asked for additional time and we couldn’t wait any longer because we needed to compete and finally chose another midfielder,” said Mirwan.
As a result, Thom Haye did not wear the uniform of the club owned by the Djarum group. However, Como managed to be promoted to Serie A 2024/2025 after finishing as runner-up in Serie B 2023/2024.
Thom Haye’s name was again linked to Como in the 2024 summer transfer market. However, Como stated that Thom Haye was no longer on the player transfer radar.
The reason Como did not approach Haye again even though the 29-year-old midfielder’s contract with SC Heerenveen had expired was because they already had many players in a similar position to Haye.
In addition, Haye, who now holds an Indonesian passport, is included in the category of non-EU players in Italian football. Meanwhile, based on the 2024/2025 Serie A regulations, each club can only register a maximum of two new players with non-EU status.
Como has two new recruits from outside the European Union, namely Alieu Fadera (Gambia) and Ali Jasim (Iraq). This situation is one of the factors for Como to want to maximize the quota of non-European Union players according to the team’s needs.
On the other hand, Thom Haye has found a new port. The Indonesian National Team star officially joined the Eredivisie club, Almere City with free transfer status.
