The most likely exit route from Manchester United for winger Jadon Sancho is via Saudi Arabia as Borussia Dortmund are not in a good financial position to bring back their former player, according to The Athletic.
The 23-year-old looks set to leave Old Trafford in January after falling out with coach Erik ten Hag over his behavior in training.
The conflict made Sancho ostracized from the first team and as a result he has not appeared for Man United since August.
Although the winger has failed to live up to expectations at United since his £73m move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, Sancho has attracted interest from across Europe.
However, his salary is reported to be a stumbling block for interested European clubs.
Sources told ESPN that Dortmund are interested in bringing Sanch back, but now it appears they can’t afford to sign him.
BVB were reportedly unable to match his £200,000-a-week salary, so a move to Saudi Arabia was the most sensible option for the England international.
Sancho was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia towards the end of the summer transfer window, but the move never materialised.
However, the Saudi clubs are expected to come in January, with a deal likely to benefit all parties.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag had difficulty getting some of its targets in the summer because it could not release squad players.
The coach is likely to want to ensure Sancho leaves in January, which would provide funds for United to secure their own targets in January.
