Frenkie de Jong has silenced everyone with his performance on the pitch on Tuesday during their 5-1 thrashing of RCD Mallorca.
De Jong joined the game with only 18 minutes remaining and single-handedly got the opener before then setting up Pau Victor for the second goal.
He capitalised on a misplaced ball in the box, and put the ball beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.
In the event that Dani Olmo was substituted, Pedri, whose arrival, has seen him switch to the number 10, positioned himself further forward but the Dutchman.
“It was very important to win to regain confidence, it has been very good for us, and although the important thing is the victory, doing 1-5 in a difficult ground like Mallorca gives us confidence to move forward, but it is only one game and there’s a lot to go,” De Jong said.
“I have to be patient with everything there is, I know that’s how it is, so I’m going to continue doing what I do, working, head down and at some point we’ll see how it ends,” he added.
De Jong is going to be a free agent in the summer of 2026 and the latest update is Barcelona rescinded their contract offer to him in recent weeks, to which the player has not replied.
The 27-year-old will be transferred by Barcelona for sale in the summer if they fail to re-negotiate a fresh contract.
With the January transfer window on the horizon, Barcelona are beginning to look for ways to smooth over the situation with De Jong.
They could sell him at a lower price so that the club might need the cash or it could pave way to other possibilities in transfer market.
As for the rest of the season will reveal whether he will continue his career in Camp Nou or look for a new club to play for.
