Chelsea Football Club has officially confirmed that the Brazilian defender, Thiago Silva, will be leaving the club at the end of the 2023-2024 season.
The 34-year-old defender joined Chelsea on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2020.
During his time at Chelsea, he has won several trophies, including the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.
In an emotional message to the supporters, Silva expressed his love for the club and his intention to leave at the end of the season.
He mentioned that he initially planned to stay for only one year but ended up staying for four years.
Silva also highlighted the pride he feels as his sons are part of the Chelsea family, and he hopes they can continue their careers at the club.
“Chelsea means a lot to me. I came here with the intention of only staying for a year and it ended up being four years. Not just for me but for my family, too.” Silva said.
“My sons play for Chelsea so it’s a source of great pride to be a part of the Chelsea family – literally because my sons are here.”
“I hope they can continue their careers here at this victorious club that many players wish to be part of.” Silva added.
Silva won the UEFA Champions League alongside Chelsea in the 2020-2021 season. He made 151 appearances for the club and played a crucial role in their success.
“It’s been a dream, definitely a dream. Not even in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I could achieve such great things and win one of the best professional titles, the Champions League, at one of the biggest clubs in the world.” Silva said.
