Manchester United legend Gary Neville admitted that he was very impressed with Liverpool’s style of play under Arne Slot’s current coaching.
Liverpool have performed very solidly this season under the Dutch coach. They have even shown their slick performance since pre-season.
Slot made Liverpool play more pragmatically. However, Liverpool can sometimes still show slick play.
As a result, Liverpool have a solid defense but remain sharp up front. Now Mohamed Salah et al are at the top of the standings with a 13-point advantage over their closest rivals, Arsenal.
There are a number of factors that influence Liverpool’s success in the 2024/2025 season. According to the former Manchester United captain, one of them is the Reds’ ability to adapt in the middle of the match.
He was impressed with the way Liverpool changed their way of playing in the middle of the game. Arne Slot himself often changes the Reds’ way of playing, especially in the second half.
“I said it at the start of the season, there was one game, I don’t remember which game I think they played three or four different styles in one half or one particular game,” he recalled on the It’s Called Soccer Youtube channel.
“And that’s what I love most about this Liverpool team, because we’ve been conditioned for years to think that you have to have these principles, values and playing philosophy, you have to stick to them,” added Gary Neville.
Gary Neville then explained what Liverpool’s playing style was that impressed him. He said he was entertained by the Reds’ game which maximized all the potential of their players including the defenders.
“Then I saw (Andy) Robertson cross up for a penalty at Bournemouth. I saw (Virgil) Van Dijk play a direct pass 60 yards behind,” he said.
“I saw Trent Alexander-Arnold play a long ball behind for (Mo) Salah from deep. I thought yes, that’s how football should be played,” praised Gary Neville.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot insists his team is not afraid to face PSG or any team in the Champions League.

“I don’t think we are afraid of the opposing team. I think clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Real Madrid, clubs like that are not afraid of opponents,” Slot said on Liverpool’s official website.
“However, we really respect them and there is a reason for that, and that’s what you just said, that they have won so many games in a row and they have so many quality players,” Slot continued.
