Thomas Tuchel has signed an extension to his contract at Chelsea in a move that sees him commit his feature to the London club until at least 2024.
The German manager initially was given an 18-month deal to replace Frank Lampard in january, but has since guided them to a top four finish the FA Cup final and of course that Champions League win over Manchester City.
Overall Tuchel has won 19 of the 30 games in charge and the former PSG manager has said this about his new deal.
“I cannot imagine a better occasion for a contrat renewal. I am grateful for the experience and very happy to stay part of the Chelsea family.” Tuchel said.
“There is far more to come and we are looking forward to our next steps with ambitions and much anticipation.” Tuchel added.
Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia praised Tuchel for his exceptional work rate and professionalsm.
“When Tuchel joined us in January there was still so much to play for domestically and in Europe. He slotted in seamlessly and immediately became an integral part of the Chelsea family.” Granovskaia said.
“We are obviously extremely pleased therefore to retain thomas for a further two years and look forward to more achievements in the coming seasons.” she added.
Although Chelsea won the Champions League last season Tuchel also improved their form in the league and since he was appointed. Only manchester City took more points in the Premier League.
Now Tuchel is targeting two or three new signings as he looks to build on their Champions League. Chelsea are interested in signing a new striker like Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, and former player Romelu Lukaku.
“Two or three new signings could be very good. It’s a constant thing to never deny change. That you always bring new energy, new guys who question the old beliefs, who challenge everybody in the training and in matches, so I think it’s a good thing.” Tuchel said.
