Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante on Sunday missed the second half of the match in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield Stadium due to injury.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed the Frenchman Kante has relapsed with an ankle injury that forced him to miss the trip to Arsenal last week.
“He is injured. He missed the Arsenal game because of pain in his ankle and inflammation.” Tuchel said.
“The opponent fell in his ankle, twisted it again, and he had the same pain as before the Arsenal game. He was lacking force to accelerate and we had to take him off.
“Is there a tougher collision than knocking someone down and N’Golo Kante being knocked out in the first half at the same time as Liverpool got up?” Tuchel added.
Despite being down to 10-men for more than half of the match, Chelsea’s players matched the intensity of their manager at pitchside with a dogged second-half defensive display to keep the scoreline at 1-1 and leave Merseyside with a point.
“It was a tough game but we played brilliantly and I’m very pleased with the way we played. We feel we deserved a point at Anfield.” Tuchel said.
“A double punishment is super hard and it’s a bit of a spoiler for the game. If the referee says he denies a clear chance, then it’s a red card. It’s a spoiler of the game, nobody wants to say that for 45 minutes.” Tuchel added.
Tuchel’s side will host their Premier League campaign on Saturday against Aston Villa, before facing Tottenham Hotspur. The Blues are currently fourth place in the table standings with 7 points after playing 2 games.
