Emile Smith Rowe’s position as Arsenal’s attacking midfielder is increasingly threatened by the presence of Kai Havertz. Because of that, he is ready to fight for the main place in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Even so, Smith Rowe believes that Havertz’s presence will have a positive impact on the Gunners, Arsenal’s nickname.
As is well known, Havertz has become Arsenal’s new recruit in the transfer market this summer. This German player was brought in from Chelsea with a dowry of 67.5 million pounds.
Havertz’s presence at Arsenal has certainly made the competition between players even tougher, especially on the front lines. Smith Rowe is also one of the players whose position is threatened by the presence of Havertz.
Smith Rowe is aware of that. However, the 22-year-old player is ready to compete for the main spot. He also doesn’t have a problem if he will be played for any position later.
“Of course (there is extra competition with Havertz’s arrival). But this is football. You have to do it. I have to keep working hard and this is healthy competition. I have to keep fighting,” said Smith Rowe, quoted from Mirror, Sunday (2/ 7/2023).
“I did see a lot of talk about my position but I’m not really sure what they were thinking. I love to play anywhere. Maybe in, maybe wide. I’ll talk about it when I get back.”
On the other hand, Smith Rowe also welcomed Havertz’s presence. He hopes that the former Chelsea player can make Arsenal stronger to navigate the competition next season.
“I saw what happened and it’s obviously good for the club to add strength to the team,” he said.
“I feel the additions we make will really help the team progress again. It’s really fun so hopefully we can go even further next season,” concluded Smith Rowe.
