Tim Van Rijthoven is the third Dutch tennis player to advance to the second round of the 2023 Maharashtra Open.
The world number 111 sealed a convincing 6-4, 6-4 win over Moldovan Radu Albot in the first round of the Maharashtra Open.
The Dutchman Tim Van Rijthoven claimed the only break in both sets in the first meeting against world number 103 Albot and won the match which lasted 86 minutes thanks to some big serves.

The 25-year-old, who won his first career ATP title at ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2022, fired 14 aces and saved two break point opportunities en route to a second round clash against Aslan Karatsev.
The eighth seed, Karatsev did not face significant obstacles when he knocked out the Spanish tennis player, Pablo Andujar 6-1, 6-3.
Joining Van Rijthoven in the second round of the Maharashtra Open were Tallon Griekspoor and Botic van de Zandschulp. Griekspoor will face Italian tennis player, Marco Cecchinato, while second seed, van de Zandschuhlp will meet Cecchinato’s compatriot, Flavio Cobolli.
Italian tennis player, Cobolli bagged his second win in the ATP tournament after beating the host player who received wildcard, Mukund Sasikumar 6-4, 7-5. Facing van de Zandschulp, he will try to reach the third round of the ATP tournament for the first time in his career.
Ramkumar Ramanathan was the hosts’ last hope in singles but after taking the first set against Spaniard Pedro Martinez, the 28-year-old was unable to finish the job.
The world number 62, Martinez turned things around and edged out Ramanathan 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 to book a second round clash against fourth seed, Sebastian Baez. The encounter will be a rematch of the Chile Open final in Santiago for the 2022 season, where Martinez bagged the first ATP tournament title of his career.
Meanwhile, third seed, Emil Ruusuvuori will start the Maharastra Open in the second round against French national, Benjamin Bonzi who silenced Taiwanese national, Tseng Chun Hsin with a convincing result 6-0, 6-3.
