Timo Werner is the player most often associated with Liverpool in the transfer market. Rasen Ball Leipzig striker was widely rumored to be moving to Anfield next season.
This Liverpool transfer plan does not seem to be a rumor. This is because the manager of the Reds, Jurgen Klopp, has plans to meet with Werner.
The personal approach is the way Klopp chose before buying a player. This method has been done by formations from Germany before buying Virgil van Dijk from Southampton or Alisson Becker from AS Roma.
Klopp reportedly had plans to meet with Werner from the start. However, the corona virus pandemic made this plan impossible in the near future.
However, the head of the German media Football Division Bild, Christian Falk, said the new schedule for the meeting between Klopp and Werner had been determined.
“Werner will not go to Inter [Milan]. There has been a meeting planned with Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool are the favorite team to buy it in the summer,” Falk told Passione Inter as reported by Express.
Werner himself since last February gave a positive signal for Liverpool. The German national team called the team that is identical to the red color as the best team in the world today.
“I know Liverpool are the best team in the world right now and when you are associated with them, it makes me very proud,” Werner said.
“I know a lot of good players at Liverpool and I have to improve my appearance to learn a lot of things to reach Liverpool level and play there.”
Werner is in demand by Liverpool because of his sharpness in matters of breaking into the opponent’s goal and a versatile player. In this season, the 24-year-old striker has scored 27 goals in 36 matches.
In addition, the number of Werner’s assists for the team’s main goal machine category is impressive. He provided 12 goals with goals to RB Leipzig in all competitions this season.
This statistic shows Werner as a complete striker. The striker who started his career at VFB Stuttgart was not only a reliable goal machine but could also act as a steward for other players.
The label ‘team player’ at first glance is similar to the trio of front-line Liverpool mainstay, namely Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Mohamed Salah. These three players are productive in scoring goals but also provide quite a lot of assists.
Mane and Firmino are both packing 12 assists this season. While Salah, who became the team’s top scorer with 20 goals, recorded nine assists.
The port city team also didn’t have to spend too deep to get Werner. Players who are under contract at RB Leipzig until June 30, 2023 have a contract release clause of 50 million pounds.
That figure is far below the funds that must be spent by Liverpool when redeeming Alisson with 64 million pounds and Van Dijk with 75 million pounds which became the record for the most expensive player purchase in club history.
Liverpool’s desire to bring Werner himself to add quality and increase the competitive level in the team. Werner’s presence will make Liverpool’s front line one of the scariest in Europe.
Werner will side with Salah, Firmino and Mane as the team’s main goal machine. Not to mention there is still Divock Origi, the supersub who often determines the team’s victory at a crucial moment.
The existence of four players with the same good quality will make it easier for Klopp to rotate players. The former Borussia Dortmund coach will be more free to change the composition of players with a busy schedule in England and their participation in the Champions League.
Although fanatical with a 4-3-3 formation, Klopp is not impossible to play all four of these players together. If that is done, Liverpool will appear super offensive because of the team’s four goal machines at once.
Werner’s arrival will also spur Mane, Salah, and Firmino to perform at their best level in every match. All three of these players must provide the best performance if you do not want to be displaced by Werner to the bench.
Fierce competition for core positions is needed by Klopp so that Liverpool will continue to perform optimally in every game and can continue to dominate the Premier League like this season.
Liverpool must maintain consistency by playing at the highest level because competing teams will not let the Reds alone run fast in the title race. Two teams from Manchester, Manchester City and Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal will try to strengthen the team to compete with Salah et al.
