Timo Werner’s sting is a signal of deadly Duo at RB Leipzig

Timo Werner immediately scored in his comeback match in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig. Werner is ready to form a deadly duo with Christopher Nkunku. Timor Werner only needed 36 minutes to decorate his moment when he returned to RB Leipzig with a goal. Timo Werner’s long-range shot produced the first goal in the second week of the 2022-2023 Bundesliga match between RB Leipzig vs FC Koln at the Red Bull Arena, Saturday (13/8/2022).

Timo Werner is back in the arms of RB Leipzig this season after having an adventure in the Premier League with Chelsea in the 2020-2022 range. The 26-year-old striker previously played for RB Leipzig in the 2016-2020 period. However, Timo Werner’s goal in his comeback moment with RB Leipzig did not end in victory. RB Leipzig vs FC Koln match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Another goal for RB Leipzig was created by Timo Werner’s partner up front, Christopher Nkunku (56′). Meanwhile, a pair of goals for the visitors, FC Koln, were scored by Florien Dietz (40′) and an own goal by Josko Gvardiol (72′).

The draw is certainly not the best for RB Leipzig, the host of the match. Even so, RB Leipzig can look to the Bundesliga matches ahead with optimism. Because, collaboration in the front sector, namely Timo Werner and Christopher Nkunku, looks promising and has the potential to develop into a deadly duo.

A season before moving to Chelsea, in 2019-2020 to be exact, Werner had time to play with Christopher Nkunku. At that time, RB Leipzig ended the 2019-2020 Bundesliga in third place and successfully penetrated the Champions League semifinals.

The 2022-2023 season provides another opportunity for Werner and Nkunku to get to know each other even more. “I played with Christo in my last season here and he immediately made a lot of passes for me,” Timo Werner was quoted as saying on the Bundesliga’s official website. “He’s made incredible developments in terms of shooting over the last two years and he’s scored almost every game,” Werner said of Nkunku, who is the 2021-2022 Bundesliga player of the year.

“If we retrain our passing game, with Dani Olmo behind us who played great today, then I think we can scare the opposition in the Bundesliga, and can make a very good trio,” said Timo Werner. In the match against Koln, RB Leipzig directed by Domenico Tedesco did rely on a 3-4-1-2 scheme. Dani Olmo filling the hole attacker post, supporting the performance of the duo Timo Werner and Nkunku.
