Chairman Ron Dennis said that domination of Mercedes will be broken by team McLaren. On talking with BBC Sport, Dennis said, “I honestly believe that the next world champions after Mercedes will be McLaren. We’ll get to that goal before other people.
“It is challenging but I have a firm belief in the technical competence of our people and a firm belief in Honda.”
McLaren started racing with Honda again towards the beginning of 2015 after critical accomplishment amid the 1980s. Since the resumption of that association, their best result has been a fifth spot, scored by Fernando Alonso in Hungary a year ago. Their best result this season was the Spaniard’s 6th spot in Russia on 1 May.
In any case, the team are gaining ground; the association qualified in the main 10 interestingly with Alonso in Spain last time out.
They confront a requesting undertaking to get a Mercedes team whose drivers – Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg – have taken the main two positions in the drivers’ title for the last two seasons.
Rosberg drives this present season’s title race, with Hamilton – the 2014 and 2015 champion – in third, while Mercedes are top of the constructors’ title table.
Dennis, however, trusts the presentation of new car-outline controls one year from now will see McLaren come back to intensity. “The 2017 regulations level the playing field and it is enough time for us to catch up with Honda, so I think we’ll have a good chance next year,” Dennis said.
“I think we can win races. I don’t want to predict world championships but I do feel that dethroning Mercedes-Benz is going to be a challenge for everybody and I have reason to genuinely believe we’ll get there before anybody else.”
He further said by adding, adding: “It is frustrating not to be able to put him in the best engine-car combination.
“I like his maturity at the moment; he knows what’s possible. He is very complimentary of the car at the moment, but that’s because it’s good.”
Alonso said, “We are in front of many of our competitors, which is probably a surprise to many people but not to us. It is good to be in front of Williams, Force India, Ferrari.
“We will see in the coming races if we can keep improving our efficiency and mechanical grip.”
