Tony Bellew says he’s ready to take on former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury towards the end of the years at Principality Stadium. The 35-year-old boxer has listed Fury as one of four fighters at the end of the year.
Earlier last May, Bellew once again destroyed former heavyweight champion David Haye in their second fights in O2 Arena. The Bomber stopped his opponent in the fifth round and now keen to fight his fellow Fury after beginning a social war of words.
“100 per cent, without a shadow of a doubt. The big challenge, me against all the odds, as usual, and that is something I like the sound of.” Bellew told to Toe2Toe.
“I find it comical, the fact that he wouldn’t fight me because I am cruiserweight, yet he is actually fighting a cruiserweight, which I find quite funny.” Bellew added.
Fury hasn’t fought since he beat Wladmiri Klitschko in 2015 to become the undisputed heavyweight champion. The Gypsy King now makes his return in June 9 at Manchester Arena against Albanian Sefer Seferi and is determined to win back one of his belts before the end of the year.
“I understand why Tyson doesn’t want to come anywhere near me with the calibre of opponents he will be facing. I am a vast step up.” Bellew said.
“He’s making David Haye look like he faced Ivan Drago in is comeback, with this opponent. It’s a bit a joke of match-up but he has had a long time out of the ring and he needs to get back on top.
“The Principality Stadium would be nice because we know it’s got a roof and I am sure we can get 70-80,000 in there that want to see me put Fury on his back.
“I am not going to tarnish what I achieved at Godison Park, that night. It was a one-off event, a one-off fight and it is going to happen. I don’t fancy back there trying to do it again.” Bellew added.
Bellew on the other hand has said he is very serious about fighting retired Andre Ward. The British boxer told Ward as an ideal opponent and confirmed to make the fight happen in the future.
“He wants it and I want it. Ward wants to fight cruiserweight so we will see. I don’t think he’s ever been properly retired.” Bellew said.
