Tottenham Hotspur advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2018/2019 Champions League after beating Borussia Dortmund 1-0 at the Signal Iduna Park Stadium on Wednesday (6/3).
Borussia Dortmund tried to dominate the match in hopes of catching up to a three-goal deficit from Tottenham Hotspur. Die Borussen created many chances in the first half. However, there was nothing to fruition after Hugo Lloris has brilliance performance.
The first threat from Dortmund came in the sixth minute. Jadon Sancho sent a cross from the right wing, the ball slid into the mouth of the goal, but Jan Vertonghen swiftly did the trick. Four minutes later Sancho and Reus worked together on the right side of the Tottenham penalty area. Sancho failed to release the pull bait perfectly. The ball slides out of the field.
Marco Reus and his friends managed to confine the visitors’ defense and forced Tottenham to stay busy. Nevertheless Dortmund really got a mature opportunity in the 22nd minute through Raphael Guerreiro who was still able to be secured by Hugo Lloris.
Entering the 31st minute Tottenham got a chance through Son Heung-Min whose strike was still an endless goal.
Dortmund got four chances in the 33rd minute. Julian Weigl’s header was pushed over by Lloris. Weigl again grabbed the rebound ball, but could be blocked by opponents. Two other opportunities came from Reus and Mario Goetze. The ball can be blocked by Moussa Sissoko and pushed over by Lloris.
Dortmund still continued to shut Tottenham’s defense ahead of halftime. The ball was streamed to various sides to find a gap into the penalty box, but it didn’t work. The first round was complete without a goal.
In the second half Dortmund again took the initiative to appear offensive. But when the game entered the 48th minute Spurs managed to steal a goal. Moussa Sissoko’s breakthrough bait was successfully exploited by Harry Kane who fired hard.
Kane’s goal increasingly adds to the difficult work of Dortmund, who had to find five goals to maintain a place in the Champions League.
Die Borussen still controlled the ball after conceding but was unable to dismantle the defense of the Lilywhites. Instead Kane’s goal made Spurs comfortable in playing.
The ball even got back to nesting in the Dortmund goal in the 86th minute, but the referee canceled the goal for offside.
At the end of the match Lloris again showed action by stemming the opportunity of Paco Alcacer in a one on one situation.
Tottenham certainly won tickets to the 2018/2019 Champions League quarter-final with a total advantage of 4-0.
