Several Tottenham Hotspur players want Antonio Conte to be sacked as the club slumped to a 3-3 draw against Southampton on Saturday.
Tottenham missed a two-goal lead at bottom club Southampton, as James Ward-stoppage-time Prowse’s penalty saved a 3-3 draw that saw Spurs miss out on third place.
Conte, former Chelsea manager, was upset at the draw and expressed his emotions on the team and the club’s philosophy after the match.
“The problem is that for another time we showed that we are not a team, we are 11 players that go onto the pitch. I see selfish players, I see players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart.” Conte said.
“They’re used to it here. Don’t play for something important. They don’t want to play under pressure. They don’t want to play under stress. Tottenham’s story is this. 20 years there is the owner and they never won something. Why?” he added.
When asked about the impact of his own uncertain future on the team’s performance, the Italian suddenly ended the interview.
Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher has believed Tottenham players are going through the motions in a bid to get Conte sacked.
“He wants to be sacked on this international break. The club should put him out of his misery and sack him tonight.” Caraggher said.
“He’s right about Tottenham not winning for a long time, but you can’t talk about the club like that. Especially when you’re paid a fortune.
“The fact that Arsenal are above them this season, when last season they ended below, kills their argumentasi.” Carragher added.
Conte was appointed as head coach of Tottenham Hotspur on 2 November 2021 following the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo the previous day. The Italian manager signed an 18-month contract with the option of a further year.
