Tottenham Sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid on Long-term Deal

Gareth Bale is on the verge of joining former his club Tottenham Hotspurs from Real Madrid on a season long loan, the club announced on Sunday.

Bale joined Madrid in 2013 and scored 105 goals in 251 appearances during his time at the club. The Wales international endured his worst season at Barnebau in 2019-20 season, scoring only three goals in all competitions.

“We are delighted to announce the return of Gareth Bale to the club on a season long loan from Real Madrid. He will wear the number 9 shirt.” the club said in a statement.

According to reports, Bale is no more fits in the plans of Zinedine Zidane. He was left on bench after Zidane’s reappointment to Madrid for most of the instance.

Zidane sees Bale as an unnecessary luxury player who spends most of his time injured and earns more than half a million per week. The French manager believes the 2013 transfer of Bale to have been a failure overall.

For his own part, Bale isn’t innocent. Madrid and their manager have clearly informed that he is not, and will not be, in the first team plans when the 2020-21 season begins.

A move to Spurs offers him the chance to start a fresh and work with manager Jose Mourinho who once tried to sign him while in charge at Madrid.

“It’s such a special club to me. It’s where I made my name. Incredible to be back and now I hope I can get some match fitness and get under way and really help the team and hopefully win trophies.” Bale said.

Bale made his name over six-years at Spurs before moving to Madrid. The 31-year-old striker scored 55 goals in 203 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions.
