Arsenal narrowly won over Tottenham in the 35th week of the 2023/2024 Premier League match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Sunday (28/04/2024).
Arsenal’s match against Tottenham was fierce. Both of them showed their intention to seek victory.
Tottenham’s goals were scored by Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min. Meanwhile Arsenal’s goals resulted from suicides by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz.
With this victory, Arsenal collected 80 points and became stronger at the top of the Premier League standings, four points ahead of Manchester City and five points ahead of Liverpool. Meanwhile, Tottenham is in fifth position with a collection of 60 points.
This match immediately proceeded at a high tempo. Arsenal and Tottenham attacked each other and pressed.
Arsenal then scored a goal in the 13th minute. Kai Havertz broke into Tottenham’s goal after receiving a pass from Martin Odegaard. However, the goal was not approved because Odegaard was previously in an offside position.
Tottenham then put pressure on Arsenal’s defense. But the Gunners were actually able to score first. In the 15th minute, the London Cannon received a corner kick. Unfortunately, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg actually broke into his own goal while trying to win an aerial duel with Takehiro Tomiyasu. 0-1.
In the 20th minute Tottenham almost broke through Arsenal’s goal. But Romero’s header still hit the goal post. In the 22nd minute, Micky van de Ven found the back of the Arsenal goal. However, the goal was disallowed after he was caught offside in the process.
In the 26th minute, Arsenal increased their lead. From a counter-attack situation, Saka successfully broke through the Spurs goal. He received Kai Havertz’s long pass from behind the halfway line and entered the penalty box in the right halfspace. He outwitted one opposing defender before finally breaking through Vicario’s goal with a left foot kick. 0-2!
In the 39th minute, Arsenal finally managed to score another goal. The Gunners received a corner kick which was executed by Declan Rice. His pass was met by Kai Havertz’s header. 0-3!
In the 44th minute Son Heung-min got a golden opportunity. He penetrated Arsenal’s defense and was left facing David Raya. But the ball soared high.
In the end, no additional goals were scored. Tottenham 0-3 Arsenal.
In the second half, Tottenham of course didn’t want to just give up. They tried to break through Arsenal’s goal.
But it was Arsenal who threatened Tottenham’s goal. In the 48th minute Tomiyasu headed Rice’s pass. But the ball still bounced off the target.
In the 50th minute, Tottenham could threaten Arsenal’s goal. Kulusevski sent a pass to Romero in the penalty box. But unfortunately the ball bounced off the target.
In the 52nd minute, Arsenal got another golden opportunity. The Gunners stabbed into the penalty box from the left halfspace through Havertz. He then sent a pass to Bukayo Saka, who then shot with his left foot.
In the 64th minute the goal was finally scored. Tottenham were finally able to break through Arsenal’s goal. David Raya made a mistake when trying to pass and the ball fell to the feet of Cristian Romero who was standing not far from the penalty box. Romero easily broke through the Gunners’ goal. 1-3!
The duel then took place fiercely. Tottenham tried to score another goal but Arsenal also put up resistance.
Tottenham’s efforts finally paid off in the 84th minute. Rice fouled Davies in the forbidden box. After seeing the replay from VAR, the referee finally gave Spurs a penalty. The execution was then carried out by Son Heung-min perfectly. 2-3!
In the remaining match, Tottenham tried hard to score another goal. But in the end their efforts were fruitless. They were defeated with a score of 2-3.
