Chelsea successfully made a comeback when they dueled against Tottenham in the 15th week of the 2024/2025 Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Sunday (08/12/2024).
The London derby match was exciting. Both teams attacked each other and created a number of opportunities.
Tottenham’s goals were scored by Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski, and Son Heung-min. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s goals were scored by Jadon Sancho, Enzo Fernandez, and Cole Palmer (brace).
This result made Chelsea collect 31 points from 15 matches and they are now in second place in the 2024/25 Premier League standings. Meanwhile, Tottenham is in 11th place with a collection of 20 points.
Chelsea immediately put pressure on Tottenham’s defense as soon as the match started. However, their goal was conceded first.
In the fifth minute, Dominic Solanke successfully broke through Sanchez’s goal with his tap in the middle of the penalty box utilizing Brennan Johnson’s perfect pass from the right wing. Johnson himself had previously stolen the ball from Marc Cucurella who slipped when trying to control the ball in the middle of the field. 1-0.
In the 11th minute Spurs managed to score another goal. Cucurella slipped again, this time on the left side of the penalty box, and the ball was then controlled by Dejan Kulusevic. Kulusevic then cut into the middle and fired a shot into the bottom left corner of Chelsea’s goal. 2-0!
In the 18th minute Chelsea were able to reduce the deficit. Jadon Sancho charged through Spurs’ right defense and then cut into the middle to the front of the penalty box. He fired a hard, flat shot and the ball headed to the bottom left side of the goal. 2-1!
In the 32nd minute Chelsea threatened from Cole Palmer’s hard kick from outside the penalty box. The ball was blocked by Forster but rolled towards Pedro Neto, who fired a shot into the near post. However, the ball was again blocked by Forster.
In the 35th minute Spurs got a golden opportunity from Solanke. He received a short pass from Son in the penalty box but unfortunately his shot was too weak and could be easily blocked by Sanchez.
The duel then went tough. Both teams were still attacking each other but The Blues were slightly more dominant. But in the end there were no additional goals until halftime. Tottenham 2-1 Chelsea.
In the second half the duel was fierce again. However, Chelsea was able to create the first chance first.
In the 48th minute they got a chance from Jadon Sancho’s kick in the middle of the penalty box. He got a pull pass from Cucurella but his kick was still stopped by Forster.
In the 57th minute Chelsea threatened again from Gusto’s kick from outside the penalty box in the right halfspace. But the ball was still blocked by Forster.
In the 59th minute Chelsea fans cheered happily. Because their team was awarded a penalty after Bissouma violated Moises Caicedo who was trying to chase Sancho’s pass in the penalty box. A minute later the penalty execution was carried out perfectly by Cole Palmer. 2-2!
In the 68th minute Spurs got a golden opportunity from Son who attacked from the left flank. He cut into the middle of the penalty box and was able to release a shot to the far post. Unfortunately, his shot went wide to the left side of the goal.
In the 73rd minute, Spurs’ goal shook again. Cole Palmer swerved on the left flank and entered the penalty box and then released a shot that was blocked by Tottenham’s defense. The loose ball rolled into the penalty box and was met by Enzo Fernandez’s left-footed volley. 2-3!
In the 77th minute, it was Sancho’s turn to threaten Spurs’ goal after receiving a pass from Neto. He did a stepover to trick Porro but his shot was then blocked by the defender.
In the 83rd minute, Spurs received another penalty. Because Pape Sarr carelessly brought down Cole Palmer in the penalty box. In the 84th minute, Palmer scored from the penalty spot with the Panenka technique. 2-4!
In the 90+4 minute, Spurs got a chance from Son. After escaping the offside trap, he was able to release a shot but the ball was blocked by Sanchez who quickly moved forward to close the South Korean player’s shooting space.
Two minutes later, Son Heung-min finally managed to score. From a corner kick, the ball was passed short and brought into the penalty box by Maddison before finally being passed into the middle of the penalty box for Son to execute. 3-4!
The goal unfortunately became the last goal for Tottenham. Chelsea won 3-4.
