Liverpool won a very exciting duel at Tottenham’s headquarters in the 17th week of the 2024/2025 Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (22/12/2024).
This match was quite one-sided, especially in the first half. Tottenham was able to rise in the second half but still could not match Liverpool’s prowess.
Tottenham’s goals were scored by James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s goals were scored by Luis Diaz (brace), Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Mohamed Salah (brace).
This result makes Liverpool firmly at the top of the standings with 39 points from 16 matches. Meanwhile, Tottenham is in 11th position in the 2024/2025 Premier League standings with a collection of 23 points from 17 matches.
As soon as the match started, Liverpool immediately put pressure on Tottenham’s defense. The hosts were forced to retreat to their own defense area.
In the third minute, the hearts of Spurs supporters were made to beat faster. Fraser Forster almost made another blunder. He intended to distribute the ball but the ball fell to Mohamed Salah’s feet in the penalty box in the left halfspace. Fortunately, Salah’s kick was inaccurate and the ball only went wide to the left side of the goal.
Liverpool had threatened from Salah’s kick but he was then declared in an offside position. After that, the Reds continued to try to find a gap in Spurs’ defense.
In the 14th minute, Gakpo had a chance from a kick from outside the penalty box after receiving a pass from Diaz. Unfortunately, his kick was still wide of the target.
In the 18th minute, Liverpool had another chance. Diaz passed the ball to Salah in front of the penalty box. The Egyptian player was able to enter the penalty box and take a shot despite being disturbed by three opposing players. But his kick still hit the crossbar.

However, this score did not last long. In the 45+1 minute, Liverpool scored again. From Trent’s long pass, the ball was headed by Dominik Szoboszlai and brought by Salah to the front of the penalty box. The ball was then passed again to Szoboszlai who was running unguarded in the penalty box. He was easily able to beat Forster. 1-3!

In the second half, Tottenham improved their performance. However, they still had difficulty pressuring Liverpool’s defense.
However, it was Liverpool who scored again. In the 54th minute, they launched a counterattack and Gakpo who entered the penalty box sent a pass to the front of the penalty box. There was a melee and the ball was finally pounced on by Salah to score a goal. 1-4!
In the 56th minute, Liverpool almost scored again. Alisson launched a long ball behind the halfway line and the ball was chased by Szoboszlai. The Hungarian player entered the penalty box and successfully passed the goalkeeper. Unfortunately, his shot went wide of the target.

In the 76th minute, Liverpool almost scored again from a counterattack. Salah lobbed Diaz and the Colombian tried to loft the ball over Forster. But the ball failed to enter the goal.
In the 82nd minute, Spurs managed to score again. Solanke successfully broke through Liverpool’s goal with a left-footed shot from inside the penalty box.
However, in the 85th minute, Liverpool managed to score again. Diaz again registered his name on the scoreboard with a shot from a narrow angle inside the penalty box, after receiving a pass from Salah. 3-6!
The referee then gave five minutes of additional time. But no additional goals were scored. Tottenham 3-6 Liverpool.
