Tennis News: The Miami Open tournament director James Blake stated that he understands how disappointed players and fans are right now after the tournament’s cancellation, but health must be a top priority.
On Thursday (12/03) local time, the Miami Open became the second major tennis tournament which was finally canceled after the tournament released a statement that the tournament in Miami this season would not be held due to the rampant corona virus. James Blake Releases Statement.
“The Mayor of Miami, Carlos A. Gimenez has made a statement about the emergency situation in Miami Dade County and made the decision to suspend the Miami Open due to fears of the corona virus that still haunts,” said the organizer of the Miami Open.

Former world number 4 Blake hopes the Miami Open will not face the same problem next season and is looking forward to the tournament at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami next season.
“We look forward to holding another world class tournament, but our top priority remains health and safety for everyone involved at the Miami Open, including the South Florida community,” said the director of the Miami Open tournament, Blake.
“As a former tennis player and now director of a tournament, I understand how disappointed tennis players, fans, sponsors and tournament staff are. We are looking forward to returning to Hard Rock Stadium on March 24 – April 6, 2021. “
The Miami Open last season was won by Roger Federer after defending defending champion John Isner, while the women’s singles number was won by 12th seed Ashleigh Barty who pushed aside fifth seed Karolina Pliskova.
