Lewis Hamilton, Formula 1 world champion, revealed his best performance of the year. He trusts that Turkish Grand Prix victory “stand-out” for his seventh F1 title.
Hamilton tallied Michael Schumacher’s world record of highest numbers of Formula 1 world championship titles. He remained dominant through out the season with maximum victories. He won 11 out of 16 races and started 10 races from pole position.
The British driver with his outstanding performance closed the title race at Turkish GP with three races remaining. He also set a new record of 95 victories surpassing Schumacher’s record by 4.
This season pushed Hamilton at many occasions, where he showed his true potential as a driver. He took pole position with heavy rain at Styrian GP and his victory at British GP.
The Brit finished the race with three tyres and stood victorious while Verstappen at its tail. But he thinks Turkish victory was the best that he rejoiced celebrating.
“Turkey, naturally is the closest one to memory, because it was not that long ago,” Hamilton said.
“I think that was [the best] for me, in the circumstances we were faced with as drivers, and with it being so pressured, the championship could be won in that moment.
“I would say that for me was my stand-out performance.”
Istanbul Park provided exciting F1 race that many enjoyed, which put drivers at bay with low grip conditions. Lance Stroll won the pole position while Hamilton could only managed to sixth.
Hamilton took risk and opted for one stop strategy, ultimately paying off with a closed victory. He had to drive with 3 tyres and Verstappen closed the gap to 30 seconds.
Mercedes won the race with Hamilton and lost one-two place because Bottas tyre failed. He finished on 14th position.
The season was struck with many adversaries but Hamilton insists that he did not change his approach.
“I always take it one race at a time, it doesn’t change the approach at all,” Hamilton said.
“It’s just the season started much later, which meant that the normal build up, the normal race prep that I would have in building up to the first grand prix and arriving ready to peak shortly after – and then there was no races for a period of time.
“It was just trying to discover the best way to train and prepare yourself for the opportunity if it comes along that the season is going to start.
“It was weird to start mid-year, and all be in Europe and have back the triple-headers. But I think we showed strength and real depth this year as a team.”
