Two Manchester United legends, Gary Neville and Roy Keane, both believe that striker Cristiano Ronaldo completely has a place at Old Trafford under new Manager Erik ten Hag next season.
Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, Neville said: “Ronaldo makes Manchester United fans go crazy, he always takes his chances and it will be really interesting to see what happens to Erik Ten Hag.
“We know Ten Hag builds a game with a lot of pressure, trying to get the ball right in the opposition half, that’s not Ronaldo’s strong point and we know it. But he will need a goalscorer who scores 20 to 25 goals a season.
“Ronaldo is a phenomenon. He achieved everything, his professionalism exceeds anything you could wish for.” Neville added.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo on Thursday night scored an equaliser for United two minutes after Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso put the visitors ahead with a wide-open volley in the box.
Ronaldo pounced on a delightful scoop pass from Nemanja Matic into the box, and he sent a searing rocket into the roof of the net for his 17th Premier League goal.
“I know people are quick to criticise what Ronaldo can’t do, about his pressing ability, but he never showed up anyway. sharp in that respect. He was the greatest at the hardest part of the game, scoring.” Keane said.
“Ten Hag will have a sleepless night watching United play, but if you have a player in your squad that can score that number of goals, you have to hold on. He will want to play game after game.
“The new coach will come in and he will look for another striker but Ronaldo will not stay unless he is guaranteed a starting place.” Keane added.
