Boxing promoter Barry Hearn said heavyweight champion Tyson Fury would make more than £100m if he had his next fight with another boxer.
Fury on April 24, defended the WBC and The Ring heavyweight titles. In front of an underrated opponent in all aspects, he only needed 6 rounds to knock out compatriot Dillian Whyte.
The Gypsy King has confirmed the plan to hang up the gloves after the mission at Wembley is completed.
After the fight, Fury pulled a familiar face onto the ring, the reigning UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. The British boxer took the initiative to recall competing with “The Predator” in the future.
“I promised my wife Paris that I would retire after three fights with Deontay Wilder. That was a sincere promise. Now everything over. I have to keep my word, and I think my boxing career is over.” Fury said.
“Francis Ngannou is here, today, he is still on my list of matches to perform. How he wants to, in the cage, on the boxing radio, boxing gloves, UFC gloves, we all have it. make it happen. I believe everyone wants to see this match.” Fury added.
Nowadays, the fact that professional boxers announced their retirement and returned to the ring, whether for exhibition or real matches, is not new to the fans.
The case of Floyd Mayweather Jr that Fury mentioned is a typical example, although he announced his retirement after the fight with Conor McGregor in 2017.
Fury’s idea has long been revealed by recent rival calls. Not only that, being able to compete in professional boxing is also Ngannou’s wish before the Cameroonian came to MMA or won the UFC championship.
Following his victory at UFC 270, Francis Ngannou will be dialing with a knee injury he suffered before his title defensi against Ciryl Gane. The surgeries are expected to keep the heavyweight champion out for most of the rest of 2022.
