Juventus will soon be replacing Gianluigi Buffon after Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin has taken medical test at J-Medical on Friday (8/6/2018). J-Medical is Juventus medical center located next to Allianz Stadium.
“Perin has proven his quality,” said Giorgio Perinetti, General Manager of Genoa, to Goal on Thursday (7/6/2018).
Arrival of Mattia Perin become the tradition of Italian goalkeeper at Juventus will continue. Before Buffon, there was Angelo Peruzzi who had guarded Juventus’ goal.
Juventus have only once had a non-Italian goalkeeper – Edwin Van der Sar. However, the Dutch goalkeeper defended Juventus only for two seasons since 1999. After Van der Sar, Buffon became the main goalkeeper of Juventus for 17 years.
If Perin passes medical tests this time, Juventus reportedly have to pay 15 million euros to Genoa as the transfer fee. In addition Perin will also received an additional bonus of three million euros in his clause.
Perin’s arrival to Juventus undoubtedly enhances the Bianconeri’s last line of defense, where Perin will be compete with Wojciech Szczesny to be Juventus’ first-choice goalkeeper. He is looking forward for that challenge to.
“I am very enthusiastic, I come here humbly and want to learn a lot, but I want to help and contribute a lot to the team,” Perin said.
“Juventus showed a strong interest and when they contacted my agent I could only say yes. Seriously, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I can not refuse Juventus,” he said.
Perin will be Juve’s second recruit in the transfer market this summer.
La Vecchia Signore or known as “The Old Lady” has previously managed to permanently Douglas Costa who they borrowed from Bayern Munich since last season.
Perin will be uniformed Juventus for the next four years with a salary of 2.5 million euros per season.
In the 2017-2018 season, the Italian goalkeeper managed to record 12 clean sheets from 38 games with Genoa in all competitions.
