Novak Djokovic is in a jubiliant mood ahead of the start of the 2021 US Open as he looks to complete as historic calender Grand Slam and be the first man in history to win 21 Grand Slams titles.
No. 1 seed Djokovic looks to complete the calendar Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon already this year. Should the Serbian lift the title here for the fifth time.
“I know how big is an opportunity uh in front of me and here in New York where historically I’ve played really well.” Djokovic said.
“Over the years and it’s probably the most entertaining tennis court that we have crowd we’ll be back on the stadium. I can’t wait, honestly I’m very motivated to play my best tennis but I take I have to take one hit the one ball at the time as they say you know try to be in the moment.” Djokovic added.
The 2021 US Open main draw runs from August 30 – September 12 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament takes place for the 141st time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year.
“Have a guiding star in a way a dream to win a Slam here which would obviously complete the calendar Grand Slam.” Djokovic said.
“I’m hugely inspired and motivated by that no doubt um but at the same time. I know how to balance things out mentally and with a lots of expectations.” Djokovic added.
Djokovic will also overtake Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to become the first-ever man to win 21 Grand Slam singles titles.
“Obviously around you know my participation here without Rafa and Roger participating. You know I feel it I know there’s a lot of people are going to be watching my matches and expecting me to to do well and fight for Slam but at the same time regardless of Roger’s and Rafa’s absence you still have tremendous quality tennis players that are probably right now.” Djokovic said.
