Valentino Rossi retired on Sunday after the MotoGP Valencia Grand Prix. In 26 career seasons across all disciplines, “The Doctor” will have gleaned nine world titles.
Rossi admitted he is keen to find out whether he’s fast enough to race with four wheels when he makes his full-time switch to the 24 Hours of Le Mans racing in 2022
“I didn’t think it would be a weekend like this. I was very worried because there was so much pressure and things to do. But, it was fantastic.” Rossi said.
“When I stop doing MotoGP, I could still race cars for another 10 years. I really enjoy it and and am thinking of trying to do the 24 Hours of Le Mans.” Rossi added.
The Italian rider won his first world title in 1997, a year after making his 125cc debut, followed by a 250cc title in 1999.
Rossi was runner-up in his first season in 2000 before winning the last world title in the 500cc class a year later with Honda.
The 42-year-old rider was with Yamaha from 2004-2010 before moving to Ducati for one season and then moving back to Yamaha where he has remained.
Formula 1 driver, Fernando Alonso, said Rossi should to attempt the adventure in the most famous 24 hours race in the world.
“Of course I would tell him to do it, to try it, because it’s an unforgettable experience. You have to prepare well for the race, everything is highly professional and very competitive. It’s not just about endurance, there isn’t a moment’s relaxation.” Alonso said.
“You have to work mentally and there are times you feel yourself waning, but you have to move on and pay attention to eating and resting. It is great fun, but takes a lot of preparation.” he added.
