Barcelona officially extended coach Ernesto Valverde’s contract for the next season on Friday (15/2). The 55-year coach has now contracted with the Blaugrana until 2021.
The defending Spanish La Liga champions brought Valverde in July 2017 with a three-year contract. At that time Valverde replaced Luis Enrique who had been in three seasons with Barcelona.
“Barcelona and the first team coach have reached an agreement to extend one contract season (2019/2010), plus an option (2020/2021) that brings together the two parties,” Barcelona quoted Sport as saying.
This contract extension is a realization of the wishes of Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu. The signing of Valverde’s contract extension with Barcelona took place on Friday at 11.00 local time. A press conference regarding the extension of Valverde’s contract will be held at 17.00.
In the last two seasons with Barcelona, Valverde successfully presented the three Catalonia team trophies. In his first season Viandar de la Vera’s birth coach led Barcelona to win the 2017/2018 La Liga and the Copa del Rey in the same season.
In this season, the Spanish Super Cup was also won by Barcelona after beating Sevilla 2-1. Barcelona have the chance to defend the La Liga title if they can maintain the consistency of the game.
Previously, many parties predicted Valverde would leave Barcelona at the end of the season. The issue came after Valverde doubted his future for next season despite still leaving a one-season contract.
