Ernesto Valverde has revealed that even victory against Real Madrid at El Clasico on this weekend will not guarantee the Blaugrana will win the title.
A victory for Valverde’s side would move them 14 points clear of Real but with Atletico Madrid and Valencia in close vicinity, he knows that it will mean little in the running for the title this season.
“It will be a different match than the Super Cup. I don’t think that the victory at El Clasico will give us the title of champion because Atletico Madrid is only six points behind us,” Valverde told reporters.
“The La Liga competition is going to be a long competition and there’s nothing to be certain about now. We will come face-to-face in a good shape, we have preparations for a week and are confident.”
“It was important game to win, not only by three points but also to get to the next game with good feelings. El Clasico will be a match against an enormous rival.
“What we know is that this is a long competition, nobody will decide anything at this point. We will prepare for it well.” Valverde added.
Barcelona enjoyed their 4-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna on last weekend. However, Valverde admitted that the game was tough during whole 90 minutes.
“We had a little trouble in the beginning, until the first goal, and then the opponent was forced to discover more.” Valverde said.
“Every time we picked up the ball we could create the danger. We negotiated this game seriously, it was important to approach the next facing Real with good feelings, with confidence.” he added.

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has agreed with what his head coach said. Speaking to reporters, Uruguayan striker said there are other challengers but not Real Madrid.
“It would be a plus to win there, but there are other challengers, Valencia and Atletico Madrid are the two teams pushing us, and we have to take advantage of the opportunities that come our way.” Suarez said.
Barcelona are currently on the top La Liga table standings. They are six points ahead of Atletico Madrid, eight points from Valencia and eleven points from Real Madrid.
