It seems that Jose Mourinho doesn’t want to be unemployed for long. Most recently, he plans to return to the world of football this summer after being linked with a move to Bayern Munich.
The former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham manager is not currently coaching any club after he was sacked by AS Roma in January after achieving just one win in five matches.
Mourinho parted ways with Roma in January 2024. His position was replaced by Daniele De Rossi. Mourinho was then linked with a number of teams. There are teams from Saudi Arabia, then Barcelona and Manchester United.
But Mourinho apparently didn’t go anywhere. He did not join any club after being expelled from Roma.
Earlier this week, reports in Germany claimed that Mourinho was already learning German in preparation for taking over at Bayern, who are looking to replace Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.
Bayern are considering a move for Mourinho as they look for someone to replace Thomas Tuchel when he leaves at the end of the season.
After attending the Portimao Moto GP event, in Portugal, Sunday (24/3/2024), Mourinho was asked about his future plans.
Asked if he had received any offers, the coach was evasive and has yet to conclude an agreement with any club.
“None, there is no [agreement]. I don’t have a club, I’m free. But I want to work, in the summer I want to work,” said Mourinho.
Then, Mourinho was also asked whether he would not rule out the possibility of returning to Portugal to coach a club in his home country.
“Why?” he answered. “Never say never, especially in football. My life is football, I can coach anywhere, I don’t have any problems.”
Meanwhile, Bayern board member Max Eberl indicated that Mourinho was on the club’s list of candidates to replace Tuchel.
“There are more than four, but of course there are not 40 names in it,” he told SportBILD.
“It’s our job to think of everything, there are also unusual options on the list. We exchange ideas to get the best essence: We need and want to know people and their groups.
“We want to identify a lot of things first and then have two or three final discussions at the final stage.
When asked if Mourinho was an option, Eberl replied: “Of course we are also looking at the coaches who are currently available.
Mourinho has also been linked with a return to Chelsea, although club sources have this month denied the possibility of the 61-year-old replacing Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.
