The former Manchester United captain, Wayne Rooney, favorite Manchester City and Barcelona as the two teams in this season’s Champions League final held at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
Both City and Barca are considered to be among the favorites of Champions League champions this season. Pep Guardiola’s own squad have set one foot in the quarter-finals after beating Schalke with a score of 2-3 at the Veltins-Arena, on their first leg on Thursday (21/2).
While Barcelona was only able to draw 0-0 when visiting Olympique Lyon, in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 on Wednesday (20/2). However, Rooney feels that the Catalan team will be able to penetrate to the top game of the European club’s biggest stage this season to meet City, which he also hopes will be able to run until the final match.
Rooney did not put his former club into the Champions League final favorite team. DC United’s attacker actually put the neighboring club Man United who is a rival of the Red Devils, Man City, to side with the Blaugrana in the top game.
According to Rooney, with Pep Guardiola Man City aiming for four titles this season. That was one of the reasons Wazza supported The Citizens.
“I feel that Manchester City will meet Barcelona,” the DC United star told DAZN when asked for predictions for this season’s Champions League final.
“City in recent years has become one of the strengths of England on the European stage. Last season they reached the quarter-finals, but I think they can get to the top match this year.
“I chose Manchester City versus Barcelona. But I told you again, [the team] that I want to be a winner. Of course I want Barcelona to be a champion if both teams are in the final,” Rooney told DAZN quoted from Sportskeeda.
Bad experiences defeated by Barcelona in the 2009 and 2011 Champions League finals did not dampen Rooney’s intention to support the champion’s Blaugrana this season.
In the 2009 final at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Man United lost 0-2. While in the 2011 final the Red Devils were beaten 1-3 by Barcelona. Rooney became Man United’s sole goalscorer in the match.
Rooney claimed much to learn from the defeat in the big match. For the 33-year-old player by learning from defeat, each player can do something different.
“I have won the Premier League title, the Champions League, but what I see again is when you lose,” Rooney said.
