Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax Amsterdam head coach Erik Ten Hag are the top 2 candidates for the new job to lead Manchester United in next season.
Pochettino and Ten Hag have a strong focus on developing young players, which is a key philosophy at United, and both have built their squads in an attacking style of football, in keeping with the traditions of their respective teams 20 times English Premier League champion.
However, Wayne Rooney, the greatest striker in the history of ‘Red Devils’wants to see Pochettino to lead his former club at Old Trafford.
“Pochettino has proven himself in the Premier League , he knows the Premier League. At Tottenham he brought a lot of young players, at Southampton he brought a lot of young players.” Rooney said.
“So if I were to choose between the two, I would go to Pochettino and give him time. If United give him time, I think he will do well.
“Pochettino, in my opinion, is a top coach. He knows not only how to work with top players but also with young players. United need to get that combination right because they can’t afford to fail again.” Rooney added.
Ten Hag has been widely touted to takeover the top job at Old Trafford at the end of the season and is said to have already held talks about the position with the club’s board.
Pochettino, meanwhile, will have a year remaining on his contract with Paris Saint-Germain but is under huge pressure to keep his job following the team’s elimination from the Champions League last month.
However, it’s said Ten Hag is still the favourite for the job at United but his interview has left a window of opportunity for challengers like Pochettino.
