WBC president Mauriciuo Sulaiman confirmed plans for a rematch between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury will not happen next.
However, Sulaiman said he received confirmation from Fury that the challenger would look elsewhere for his next bout.
The governing body had ordered a rematch following the draw in their first fight in December but Fury will now take on another fight before turning his attention to Wilder.
“The rematch Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury will not officially take place now,” WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman told BoxingScene.com on Tuesday.
“The WBC has received communications as our process and while Wilder confirmed its willingness to fight the rematch, Fury will take on another fight with expectations to do rematch at a later date.” Sulaiman added.
Talks for a planned duel between the two giant heavy boxers had begun shortly after their memorable 12-round draw last December in Los Angeles, California.
The British pugilist, Fury (27-0-1, 19 KOs), then delivered a memorable boxing performance, but without being able to avoid Wilder’s pounding power (40-0-1, 39 KOs) during the entire 36 minutes of the fight.
Wilder knocked down Fury twice in the ninth and in the 12th round. Fury, as we do not know how, not only beat the referee Jack Reiss, but he was able to finish the fight in force.

The “Gypsy King” signed a multi-year deal with Top Rank promoter Frank Warren and said he was eager to finalise a second fight against Wilder.
However, after the announcement of that deal Fury’s promoter Warren insisted the Wilder-Fury rematch remains likely.
“If I didn’t want to fight him, I wouldn’t have taken it in the first place. As far as I’m concerned, the fight is more make-able now than ever, because we have the biggest boys in the game behind us.” Fury said.
Wilder has successfully completed an eighth title defense. His next fight should be against his mandatory challenger, Dominic Breazeale, who was expected to face Dillian Whyte for the Interim Championship title.
