Fortnite World Cup will be held starting on April 13 tomorrow, and will be an esports competition with the biggest prize in the world with pure funds coming from game developers. But before we arrive at the specified date there is still one weekend left. Epic Games wants to take advantage of this period optimally, which is why they launched a small tournament to warm up, with the name of Fortnite World Cup Warmup.
Even though it is said to be “small”, actually the prize offered is quite large, which is US $ 500,000. But when compared to the main prize of the Fortnite World Cup which reached US $ 30,000,000, it was nothing. This tournament will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019, and will end in the Final round on Sunday the following day.
Fortnite World Cup Warmup uses the newly released mode, Arena Mode, and uses the Duo game format (a team of two people). To take part in this competition, both players in the team must have reached Division 6 in the Contender’s League in Arena Mode. Epic allocated three hours of special time for them to compete on the D-day, then took 1,500 best duos from each competition area to advance to the Final round.
The format of the competition used is very similar to the weekly qualification of the Fortnite World Cup called Online Open. Maybe Epic Games is indeed this warm-up tournament that is a place for players to taste the format of the world tournament, while maintaining interaction with players to keep it hype until the Fortnite World Cup starts.
Interestingly, Epic Games promised that the distribution of prize money of US $ 500,000 would be more evenly distributed than previous tournaments. There is no detail as to what the division is, but this means that each player has a greater chance to bring home a significant amount of prizes. Epic Games said it will release a complete rule about Fortnite World Cup Warmup in the near future.
In addition to holding tournaments, Epic Games is also working on making Fortnite have better support for competitive ecosystems. One feature that can be used is the replay feature. This feature was first tested in the Luxe Cup event in late March. Currently the replay download system still has to be done manually via the PC by visiting the link provided by Epic Games. But in the future they want replays to be watched directly from the Fortnite client, also want to implement new features for broadcasting.
