West Ham United started the 2021/2022 Premier League season well. Until the third week, the club nicknamed The Hammers was in second place with a record of 2 wins and 1 draw. The results achieved by Scottish coach David Moyes’ squad only relied on the existing squad. He lifted the confidence of the players who last season brought West Ham to 6th place in the 2020/21 Premier League final standings. Because until the end of August or the deadline for player transfers, West Ham only has 1 new player in the goalkeeper position, namely Alphonse Areola.
Even without new players, the existing players are even more tuned. Said Benrahma, who appeared normal in the previous season, but this season the Algerian national team player has performed well. Likewise with other players such as Jarrod Bowen, Pablo Fornals and Michail Antonio his game is getting more mature, even an Antonio who is plotted as a striker managed to create the club’s top scorer record of 49 goals. Antonio managed to break the previous record held by Paolo Di Canio with 47 goals. Fantastic.
However, even though West Ham’s performances at the start of this season were so good, they are still struggling to get new players. David Moyes and club management seem very careful to get new players. Of course this makes the fans so excited, is it possible that with this makeshift squad they will be able to compete in the premier league stage?, especially this season West Ham will also appear in European competition, namely the Europa League.
The anxiety that plagued the fans can finally be cured, at the end of the transfer market deadline or Deadline Day as cool language. West Ham were able to bring in three players at once, namely Kurt Zouma, Nikola Vlasic and Alex Kral.
These three players did not seem to have just been brought in by The Hammers, Moyes certainly knows better in his squad, these are the players who can really help the club. Under the former Manchester United manager, West Ham adopted an effective transfer policy.
On several occasions in interviews with journalists, Moyes said that he did not want to just bring in players. Moyes only needs players who can really fit into the club’s game system, that’s why it’s a bit late in signing players. According to the author, that is the difference between Moyes and previous West Ham managers such as Manuel Pellegrini. The Hammers’ recruitment has been much more effective since being taken over by this Glasgow-born man.
As a result, from a series of positive results at the start of this season, Moyes was able to add strength to the team by signing players at the end of the transfer window deadline. Towards the end of last August were fantastic days for the Hammers. They initially strengthened their defense by signing Kurt Zouma from Chelsea, before adding depth to their attacking line-up by landing Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow on 30 August 2021.
West Ham had to pay 25.7 million plus additional bonuses to sign the Croatia international, and within a day they had secured the services of Alex Kral from Spartak Moscow on loan. The 23-year-old plays as a midfielder and despite being on loan, West Ham have a permanent redemption right at the end of the season.
According to the Football London page, the arrival of new faces at West Ham is all to Moyes’ taste. Can they come together immediately and make a consistent West Ham form which is currently at good form? It would be interesting to see how West Ham United performs this season under management of David Moyes.
