WestGate Resorts opens a new Poker Room

Westgate Resorts is hoping the fourth time is a charm for its new poker room recently opened in what was the sportsbook “Fan Cave” at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino. Formerly the Las Vegas Hotel and Casino (LVH), the Florida-based resort development company purchased the property in June 2014 and shut its three-table poker room down the following year after casino operations were taken over by Paragon Gaming. The poker room at the propriety suffered the same fate under different ownership early in the 2000’s and again in 2007.

Wednesday, August 9th, the hotel and casino known by most for being home to the largest sportsbook in Las Vegas, had a soft opening for its new six-table poker room after a two-year closure. The intimate poker room is located in a space previously occupied by what was the sportsbook “Fan Cave,” according to CardsChat.com. The news portal reports that the supervisor at the newly opened Poker Room, David Fried, said the possibility of poker returning to the Westgate always existed but that interest in the property’s most current transformation just recently made that a reality. Fried said, “[Management] really wanted to open this up again,” and that “happened pretty quickly.”

Prior to its soft opening on the 9th of August, the Poker Room manager reportedly said the new digs will mirror the former fan cave and would be up and running in time for the NFL season. Fried said, “We have the three large projection TVs on one wall and four large flat screens on the other,” Fried told CardsChat.com. “I want to get some more TVs on the other side as well. It will be perfect for football season,” according to CardsChat.com. Located directly behind the 30,000 square foot sportsbook and adjacent to the SuperBook Deli, Fried said shortly after the opening table-side dining should be available as well. Commenting on the opening he said, “It will be word of mouth at first,” but that people would find out about the newly opened poker room pretty quickly.

For now the room will reportedly offer $1-2 no-limit, and $2-4 and $3-6 limit Texas Hold’em, with pot-limit Omaha an option as well. To begin, Fried reportedly said they are hoping to offer $40 daily tournaments at 11 am and 7 pm. He said they want to have plenty of incentives for players and, “We’ll start giving away buffets or restaurants credits starting at three hours of play,” according to the news portal. The Westgate also reportedly intends to host a private in-house tournament this week for people in town for the APA World Pool Championships being held at the Westgate August 10-19, 2017. The newly opened Poker Room hours are daily from 8am to 2am.

Located immediately adjacent to the Las Vegas Convention Center and just one block from the Las Vegas Strip, the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino offers 2,956 guestrooms arranged over 30 floors. The property is home to more than 10 restaurants and 5 bars/lounges, spa, fitness center, salon, pool and cabanas, shopping, golf, tennis courts, wedding chapel and a Las Vegas Monorail onsite for easy access to The Strip. The 95,000 square feet of gaming features over 700 slots and video poker machines, more than 30 table games and of course the 30,000 square feet, 350-plus seat Race & Sports SuperBook.
