The director of the Danish Players Association, Michael Sahl Hansen, asked Barcelona to stop bullying Martin Braithwaite. Barcelona originally brought Martin Braithwaite to Camp Nou from Leganes in February 2020.
At that time, LaLiga gave Barcelona the green light to make a controversial emergency transfer. Barcelona was given a dispensation to make transactions outside the transfer window because they lacked of ‘attacking ammunition’.
Martin Braithwaite, the Danish player, was given a contract by Barcelona for four years until 2024. However, Martin Braithwaite is now not in Xavi Hernandez’s plans as Barcelona tactician. Therefore, Barcelona are trying to kick out Martin Braithwaite as quickly as possible. Barcelona did so to Martin Braithwaite in order to reduce their overall wage bill.
Barcelona’s attitude has received serious criticism from the Director of the Danish Players’ Association, Michael Sahl Hansen. Michael Sahl Hansen even went so far as to say that Barcelona was like repressing Braithwaite. “Treatment to Martin was completely unreasonable. Something that is somewhere in between intimidating and bullying. It’s a shame how Barcelona tried to get him out of his contract, out of his job. A player who comes to their rescue when they are under pressure is now in disgrace. Where is their decency?” Michael said.
According to Michael Sahl, Barcelona should abide by the agreement that was made in advance with Martin Braithwaite. “A contract is a contract. FC Barcelona and Martin committed two more years. Martin must continue to fulfill his obligations from the agreement, as well as Barcelona,” he said. “It would be in keeping with the way one of the biggest clubs in the world treat their players with respect.”
This is not the first time Barcelona have been criticized for their behavior towards members of their squad. Previously, former Real Madrid player from the Netherlands, Rafael van der Vaart, was also furious with Barcelona’s treatment of Frenkie de Jong.
At that time Barcelona seemed want to expel Frenkie de Jong. In fact, they still have a debt to the midfielder. “You can’t treat players like that,” said Rafael van der Vaar, a former Tottenham Hotspur pillar. “Does Frenkie have too big a salary? First, you have given the contract and agreed to it. You should finish it well, not like this. This board is the mafia and they should be punished,” he said.
