Alter Ego had to end their journey in the MPL Season 14 playoffs early. In the play-ins round, they quickly lost 3-0 when they met their rivals Bigetron Alpha. The players could not hide their disappointment when they had to have an exit interview on stage. Tears turned into painful failures that Nino and friends had to accept again.
In that match, Alter Ego presented a unique draft by using Alpha jungler three times in a row. In fact, AE has Nnael who is known to be good at assassins. The player’s mainstay heroes were also widely open, such as Ling or Hayabusa. AE could even take advantage of the Ling-Angela combo, but they still insisted on Alpha.
Regarding this, Coach Aldo explained the reason. Alpha itself had certainly been prepared beforehand, even showing good results in scrims or practice matches. Unfortunately, poor decision-making caused AE to lose in several important fights.
“Indeed, the progression was in that direction (meta) and indeed during scrims the progress was also good and satisfying. We have also prepared to fight anyone and play anything. In a competition, there must be winners and losers. It’s not just one day,” said Aldo.
Aldo and the AE coaching staff ignored the strategy changes until the third game and were as confident as Alpha Nnael. He highlighted the team fights that Alter Ego had several times made wrong decisions.
Nino also closed the interview session by describing AE’s efforts in the previous match. Although not as expected, they had tried their best. “We tried our best. It’s just that the results weren’t what we wanted,”
